I am delighted said Prime Minister Puna, that at the conclusion of the recruiting process, that the Public Service Commissioner has appointed three women into leadership roles, and I congratulate the selection panel and the women appointed, for this momentous decision.

Along with our National Sustainable Development goals and the impetus by women to voice their concerns for more women in leadership, this decision clearly shows we are on track.

With that can I also personally congratulate Mrs Temarama Auguna, Ms Pamela Maru and Mrs Diane Charlie-Puna for their appointments to the Ministry of Agriculture, the Ministry of Marine Resources and the Ministry of Infrastructure Cook Islands.

These able and very capable women join Dr. Aumea Herman at the Ministry of Health, Ms. Danielle Tungane Cochrane at Education and Ms. Anne Herman at the helm of Internal Affairs.  This decision should also send a clear message said Puna, to our aspiring women in our community and in our communities abroad, that every opportunity is available to them here in the Cook Islands.

National Sustainable Development Goal 9: Accelerate gender equality, empower all women and girls, and advance the rights of youth, the elderly and disabled.
