Direct Green Climate Funding finally approved

GCF past Project Manager Mrs Elizabeth Wright Koteka

We are delighted at the news said Minister of Finance Mark Brown that the Green Climate Fund (GCF) Board at its 21st Board Meeting in Bahrain this week has approved the Ministry of Finance and Economic Management (MFEM) as an accredited entity to the GCF.

This means the Cook Islands can directly apply to the GCF for climate financing through MFEM and is a major milestone for our country. Meitaki ma’ata also to past GCF Project manager Elizabeth Wright Koteka  and all those at the Climate change Office MFEM and the Development Cook Islands Office who have contributed to this development for our country.

This achievement follows on from the Cook Islands receiving financial resources from the Green Climate Fund to strengthen their capacity to access finance through GCF in 2016, with a disbursement. The Cook Islands was the first country in the Pacific region and the first Small Island Developing State (SIDS) to receive such funding.
