Getting our Vaka back in the Ocean

CIVS President Ian Karika and Prime Minister Henry Puna

It is with a great sense of pride, that the government of the Cook Islands has been able to gift the Cook Islands Voyaging society and the Vaka Marumaru Atua $255,000 so she can be restored and repaired after the devastating fire last year here in Avatiu said Prime Minister Henry Puna.

It is our commitment said Puna to have her back in the water, and with the help of the people of the Cook Islands and a number of other organizations, as she is an essential part not only of our voyaging culture and history but more importantly, our future aspirations for Marae Moana.

From all of us connected to this Vaka and from the Cook Islands Voyaging Society, we say meitaki maata to the people of the Cook Islands for their very generous contribution to their Vaka, because this is the Vaka of the people
